The Way We Wanted Everything

Addressing the largess of it
was something we avoided
for as long as possible.

The moment we realized
we would have to
begin our coping
long since passed.
we reflected together
not on tragedy
or the loss at hand
but in the comforts of the past
where moments
could live forever.
(The way we wanted everything.)

Another lesson
another benchmark
another milestone hit
growing wise enough
to mask pain
with joy.
