176. Knee-Jerk Reactions

We were waves
come up from the sea.
Puffing out our chests
bellowing thunderous boasts
to an ever-approaching shore
furious to the point
of insanity.

When the time came
we met the shore head on.
We broke
dispersed
and lingered
floating on the currents
of back and forth
close to land
over an endless ocean
of sand and rocks.

In our time here
we slowly learned
that erosion
was the best form of revenge
and without another word
another meaningless boast
we slunk back into the sea
thinking that we found
the answer
to all our problems.

  1. Great imagery! I love the character you gave the waves.
I am also intrigued by the unusual but accurate personal meaning you have attached to assorted items like the waves, shoreline and erosion. Nice work.
