Very Well Done

People stand applauding
at the end of a sentence
like they might
at the end of a bar of notes.
As though
having waited long enough
finally given permission
a group of children holding hands in a line
being led forward
to experience the world
stopping gleefully
to cheer and scream at something
(an ice cream truck perhaps)
they fully understand.
