Not Turning to Join

They stood in a line
side by side
from an onlookers perspective
(mine)
they created a lineup
they moved together pointing
craning their necks.

There was something
collectively more important
than paying attention to their surroundings
at least for now.

Not turning to join them
lose perspective
understand their fascination
became one of the greater
resistances
if my life.
