In the Night

We felt alone in the night
longing to be among the stars
but trapped in the here and now
thinking about the past
the future
and all the lines in between.
As though there was a type of mythology
that we’d follow
and willingly latch on to.

(potentially)
Becoming affixed to this
there is the mindset that
familiarity might ground us
hold our hands
lead us forward
give us purpose.
But
to what end?

A concept
(maybe answer)
as clear as the warring tendencies
and underlying motives
of the mythologies themselves.
