need to be told
even though they don’t do.
Need to be coddled
because that’s what it takes.
Need to be hand-fed
told everything’s going to be all right.
(“There there, little prince.”)
Because inside they can’t
muster up that same courage.
Turning to the mirror of the world
claiming that the fault in their design
has been saddled to them
then hoping to find a type of satisfaction
as they wait for a shower of compliments
because it is deserved
that the mirror of the world is so dark
and hidden within
a particular brand of self-loathing
there is an answer
must the mirror reflect.
