It’s Okay

They look at the old stuff
and they say
“He was so much better then.”
“He used to know what he was doing.”
Lamenting
of course
the present
the evolution of taste
or style
unable themselves
to understand
there will always be change.

We can write about fictitious monsters
for only so long
without linking them to reality
before getting bored ourselves.
We can make the same
self-loathing comments only so many times
before they ring completely hollow.

But its okay.
They’ll claim to appreciate
without ever considering
that what they loved
wasn’t created by a machine.
