Tenuous Courage

They’ll say
“…and you’ll grow cold.
Yeah,
you’ll grow cold.
All through the days
then you’ll be old.”
and I’ll say
through moments
of flaccid inspiration
or tenuous courage
in eager shouts
and angry whispers
“That’s not what I’ve sought.
It’s not what I’ve sought
at all.”
