The Fire

And I felt like even then
my words meant little
and the traction of my thoughts
was more powerful
than force of my fist.

Here I fought
here I stood my ground
as though having found
something to stand for
was itself a reason to do so.
Not having previously learned from mistakes
I concede my naivety
but I also condone.

Yes
in retrospect
learning to live
in trials of fire
was the only way.
