The Sunlight Sea

She stood leaned against
a 4-foot tall stone wall
her arms folded across the top
with her chin just above.
She stood half casual
half strained
as though the pure casualness
of the moment was something
a little more taxing than expected.
The sunlight beyond
fell in waves.
The sea lapping up onto shore
and slowly receding back
into those distant depths
where darkness is not unfriendly
and time waits for no man.
