The Lazy River

Enter the moment of trumpets
cascading over waterfalls
descending into deep ravines
where the world has been cut
as with a slow knife
forever held to its skin.

There isn’t a second here
where the aggressor decides
to give in
not a single second.

And the hawks fly circles
around the top of the falls
hoping to spot their prey.

And time rolls on
lazy as the river
not five hundred meters
after impact.
