The Interesting Man

He wasn’t what you’d want
you’d call a real person.
Leaning back against a couch
answering a reporters’ questions
his chest would puff out
letting you know he was playing his part.
He was important enough in his own mind
to think that he deserved more
that the person he portrayed was meant for more.
And he did the best with what he was given
and he knew how to test tepid waters
and no one would claim
he was ever to be labeled
uninteresting.
