The Gorilla in the Room

A woman dressed as a gorilla stood before us gyrating
she was more and less than the absurdist artist might convey
she was the shadow of the self
the premonition
the present
she was all things
she meant nothing.

And the audience cheered
and the audience clapped
and somewhere in there
a person threw
a dollar
wadded up into a small square
so that it might not arch into the crowd
as to
of course
remain inoffensive.
