Utopia

As the whole of it unravelled
it felt like
in a way
that the natural order of things had been lost.

We huddled together like fanatics
believing every fiction we set up with a ‘what if?’.

The world ended
and we were the remains
of a once proud civilization
and then
we weren’t
(But then, of course,
we were).

It was all a matter of what we choose to believe
moment to moment.
No matter who or what stirred the ideas
there was a palpable sense of familiarity
within our group
enough so that
the notion that any of this
could be construed as ridiculous
never even crossed our minds.
