The Better Spiders of our Intentions

She whispered under her breath
when people made the same
tired jokes.
She forced the corners of her mouth
to rise
her teeth to show
added a wisp of positivity
to hammer her words home:
“Happy to be alive.
Happy to work.
Happy to read.
Happy to watch.”

There was a sense of the macabre
a beautiful marble statue holding
the gathered ends of so many spider-web
distracting with a gleeful smile
as the insects
eventually find there marks.
