Waiting to be Heard

An orator standing silent at the podium
waiting for the noise of a crowd to disperse.
His words are scripted
though he hardly ever agrees
whispering through sentences
hoping no one will associate their meaning
with him.

Yelling a monologue in the back of his head
where he says whats on his mind
going so far as to scream
every single syllable
without much of a grimace.

And when his whisper quiets
and the room applauds
he turns
walks from the podium
and imagines a world
where his words
are the ones
garnering the applause.
